Hi
Need some help and advice with xp.I know very little about it(apart from I
don't like it)
My own OS is win 95osr2,has it's drawbacks, has it's good points.

Problem...my sister inlaw has xp machine(about 18months old)no firewall(xp
not turned on)
no antivirus software(told her many times to get one).

She's been on hols and live in dog//house sitter it seems got used computer
and it's got
the msblast.exe worm/virus,pop up tells that comp will shut down in 60secs.

I know a microsoft patch has got to be installed//removal tool can be found
at symantec site,
and system restore should be turned off while removing worm.

Reading up one xp it says that to turn off system restore I must be the
following

Notes:
You must be logged in as an Administrator to do this. If you are not logged
in as an Administrator, the System Restore tab will not be displayed. If you
do not know how to log in as Administrator, contact your system
administrator (if you are on a network), the computer manufacturer, or
installer.
Turning off System Restore will clear out all previous restore points.
.............................................................................
.............................................................................
.............
This I do not understand, what must I do please to be able to turn off system
restore.

If,If, I can sort this for her I will be installing Nortons internet
security on the machine
If you can help please keep as simple as poss to the above please.
Many thanks.

: If this is XP home, her normal logon is probably 'an administrator'
: already.
: Try start, help, system restore (pick a task, #3), system restore
: setting (left hand window link), then tick the 'turn it all off' box.
