Can XP-Home or Win2000 be a Remote Desktop Host?

A

Aloke Prasad

I have a home network with

1 PC with XPPro - this is where I sit
1 PC with XPHome
1 PC with Win2000

I'd like to be able to remotely control the XPHome and Win2000 PC while
sitting at the XPPro PC. IS this possible?

Any web site that provides a step-by-step guide on how to do this?

Thanks

No, but you can use VNC or NetMeeting Remote Desktop or Remote Admin (which I have not used) to
access/control a XP Home or W2K box remotely...

Get the VNC or Remote Admin software from...

http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
http://www.deltasoft.hr/remote/index_en.htm

For help with NetMeeting RDS look at this KB article. NetMeeting is built-in to XP and W2K and can
not be
upgraded...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;233175

Note that the VNC data stream is *NOT* encrypted so that is a potential security problem if you use
if over the public internet. Some folks run VNC through VPN tunnels to get around that issue.
