can Word display a graphic from a link in excel file? (mail merge)

I want to do a mail merge type document from an Excel file. One of the
fields in excel has a link to a different graphic for each record. These are
local links on the same computer. I know how to do normal mail merges but is
there a way for Word to recognize that one field as a link and display the
graphic its connected to?

The linked page shows how to merge graphics from information contained in
the data file. You cannot merge linked graphics directly from the Excel
file. You will have to create a field containing the filename and/or path of
the graphics.
