Can Word 2000 open a Word 2003 doc file successfully?

I've opened Word 2003 docs with Word 2000 with no problem. Are you getting
some sort of an error message?
 
Word 2000 and Word 2003 use the same file format, so you should have no
trouble opening the file. To the extent that Word 2003 uses features not
available in Word 2000 (and they are few), you may see some degradation
unless the creator of the file has disabled features introduced after Word
2000.
