Hi everyone,

I'm banging my head against the wall over this question
as I can't seem to find an answer to this simple question.

I know you can install Win2003 Server Admin Tool Pack to
administor DHCP Servers from a WinXP machine, but I can't
find out if you can install a DHCP server to run on a
WinXP machine.

Any help would be apreciated, just reply in this
newsgroup.

Thanks.

No, but you can get third party software to do it, or if you run ICS you get
a sort of mini-DHCP server. What's your setup/goal?

Hi,

Thank you for your response, just wanted to run it for a
simple home network, and couldn't out if it could be done
on WinXP or not (the Windows version).

Well, don't really need any further info just wanted to
reply to thank you for your answer.

For a simple home network, why is DHCP required? Why not just use fixed
IP addresses and forget about this complexity?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I like DHCP, but for a small/home network with no server, I usually just
stick a small firewall/router in & let it do DHCP and NAT (presuming there's
shared broadband).

That's what I'd do too (unless fixed IP req'd for any reason) ... but
this guy searching for DHCP on a psuedo server XP Pro for a home.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
