is there a way for the system to automically update the PPT to reflect a
newer version

Hi,

Not really. You first have to purchase upgrades to new versions. Then you
manually have to go to Help| Check for Updates. Although you can push out
upgrades across an organisation if you are a System Administrator. Is that
what you wanted to know?

There's nothing like this built into PPT.

Perhaps a "container" PPT file that only contains a link to the current updated
version of the "real" PPT file?
