I am new in Active Directory. I recently promoted a Windows 2000 server to
domain controller. Everyone in office who has their profile in their own
workstation. Now, they need to login to the domain controller. Can they keep
their profile on their PC, but not in server? If yes, how can I work on
this? Thanks!!

Of course they can - but the profile will be different on each
workstation. With roaming profiles Your users can log on to any
workstation and get their own profile.

IF You want to preserve local user profiles simply don't set anything in
the user profile apth and they will get their local profile after logon.
However - this will be new, clear default user profile becouse user from
the domain has different SID then locall user - If You want to give them
their old local profiles, after the user will log on with it domain user
name and then log off- You will have to log on as and Administrator to
this workstation and copy local profile to the domain user profile.

Therefore, there is no way to use their old local profile (keep on their pc)
after they login to the domain controller?
