CAN"T LOG IN WINDOWS XP

I had my homepage highjacked and someone tried to reinstaqll XP. It is asking me to activate with Microsoft and either, yes or no, willo not let me do this. I have no icons on my desktop and no Start button. I do not want to loose my files. Please advise if there is a solution

First, don't ever post personal information, phone numbers, addresses, etc.
in a public newsgroup.

Clearly, you have a butchered installation. Can you get to your files to
back them up as it appears you're going to need to do a clean install and
that will wipe the drive; though, you could install XP to a separate
partition and then try to access your data from the new setup and bring
those files over to the new setup. If you don't have an available
partition, this would require third party software such as Partition Magic,
www.powerquest.com from Symantec.
