Can Registry be modified from dos mode?

Gary Helfert

A virus continues to close my regedit every time I try & open it, both in
Win98 & Win2k.
Can I boot my PC in dos mode and search the registry for the culprit from
there.
Might there be a third party equivalant to regedit I can make changes to the
registry through?
Thanks.

Regedit has only limited capabilities under DOS, e.g. merge, backup, restore.
For the advanced feature you must run it under Windows.

Read in www.invircible.com/item/80 how the ToggleMode utility can resolve your
problem.

Google is your friend. Someone produced a complete set of utilities
(regedit, task manager, etc.) with the names changed to get around
viruses. For many viruses, simply renaming the .exe to .com will work.

If you can find a registry editor which runs under dos yes; but finding such
a critter will most likely be next impossible even if such a critter exists.
