Can Project / Task tracking be done in Access?

Is there an easy way to do Project tracking using Access? I don't have MS
Project, although that is ideally the functionality that I'd like to have.
Any suggestions on doing this in Access?

The short answer is yes.

First you must decide what kind of data and to what level of detail you will
track.

You can track labor subdivided by skills into subtask allocation. You can
track cost, items, deadlines (milestones, inch-stones) etc.

I think the license for the Academic version is for "learning" only, at
least in spirit.

If the O.P. uses the Academic MS Project for actual business usage, I am
reasonably sure it is a violation of the license agreement ...

While an Access application can be developed to provide some features of the
Microsoft Project, I think the amount of time you need to invest will be
much much more than the license fee for Microsoft Project.

Remember that the costs of development for Microsoft Project (plus Microsoft
profit, of course) are shared between millions of licenses that Microsoft
sells while the costs of developments of your Access custom application will
be fully borne by one, namely you.

In addition, there is no way you can develop the same features set link you
can get with Microsoft Project. I imagine that Microsoft would have had
hundreds of people developing and improving Microsoft Project continually.

You are correct... it violates the agreement if it is used
commercially.
