can only save graphics as a bmp

I just set up my new pc today and am running into a few
glitches...when I try to save a photo from the web, i am
only allowed to save it as a .bmp. I deleted my temporary
files from my internet options, thinking maybe that was
the problem, however i just hooked this pc up this
afternoon. Anyway, after deleting temp files I still can
not save jpg or gif files as anything but bmps. can
anyone help me? TIA

It's time to perform some Spring Cleaning:

Go to Start > Run and type: CLEANMGR.EXE , and hit enter.
This will start your disk cleanup utility. Make sure to cleanup
your Temporary Internet Files.

Hi,

This issue may occur if a damaged program file (for example, an ActiveX or
Java object) is downloaded to the SystemRoot\Downloaded Program Files folder
on your hard disk.

To fix the issue
Click on the Start button and then go to Run then type cleanmgr.exe and hit
ok.

The disk cleanup utility will now startup. Make sure to cleanup
your Temporary Internet Files and then you'll be able to save in .jpg format
again.
