Can only play WMV videos in XP SP2 !!!

OK, i have no idea why this is happening. Keep in mind this just happened out
of the blue, no new software was installed or anything like that. For some
reason i can only play windows media videos (wmv) in any program (WMP, DivX,
etc.). Every time i try to play another kind of video like mpeg, the program
freezes. When i try to restart my computer after having this problem, windows
has to shut down some "media event sink window" program. I'm assuming that
the probem has something to do with that, but obviously, i have no idea. Any
ideas!?!

I'm running XP SP2.

You must have installed a codec or two that is interacting with non-WMV type
media. Try installing the video related codecs. For example if you have
ffdshow then uninstall it and try again.
