After using the Symantec removal tool, try this:
You can try this.....
Use Windows Explorer to find a file called Hosts. It has
no extension.
Possible locations:
Windows 95/98/Millennium: c:\windows\hosts [/me]
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
If it does not show up there do a file search for hosts
When you find it, move it to it's proper location for the
operating system that you use as listed above.
Then.....
Once you find it (and relocated it if neccessary) rename
it to hosts.bak
You will need to let windows accept the change, it is safe
to do so.
Now try to connect to Google.
If it fixed the problem you were having, do this:
Open it (the hosts file) up in Notepad, and delete entries
in there that are referring to the (page(s) Google, Yahoo,
etc.) you can't visit. You can delete all the entries if
you wish.
Save in File, close Hosts file, reboot (even if you
probably won't need to) and try again.
