Can not set signature (office 2003 pro Outlook)

Outlook (office 2003) is not inserting a signature in e-mail replies.

Using options in the reply window appears to work, but then nothing happens.
I think Outlook is storing the information in an OE file, but then looking
for it in an outlook file!!!

Are you using Word for your mail editor or the built-in Outlook editor?
Does Tools>Options>Mail Format>Signatures show your signature file? I have
Outlook and Outlook Express use the same signature files as well. It's very
convenient.

Word is set as the e-mail editor.

Yes. That is where I set it to a particular signature, but on
reopening the window again, the setting is lost.

Other posts in the Outlook newsgroups indicate it's often best to first
disab;e Word as the mail editor, manipulate your signatures, then reenable
Word.
Interesting, this editor (which has opened in a Windows Internet
Explorer window)has inserted the correct signature. There is no
interactive spellcheck, so this must be the default editor.

I believe Outlook will use whatever is specified in Internet Explorer's
Tools>Internet Options>Programs>HTML Editor for the Advanced Edit signature
editor. I have mine set to "Notepad".

Hi Brian,

Thanks: that seems to have worked. I asked the assistant "set editor" and
got clear instructions: Main outlook window, options, mail format tab, clear
or tick box.

With word disabled as the editor, I set a signature with Insert on the first
reply. The signature was then auto-inserted on the next.

Many thanks, Bruce
