Guest

Problem Description:

Same old error message "WMM could not save....source file....insufficient
disk space....check....try again..."

Only with WMV format. Able to save using DV AVI format.

OS: XP Home Edition SP2
WMM 2.1
q*.dll is 10.something

Facts:

Was able to make small sized clip four months back but then also WMM2 used
to hang at times.

Checked papajohn site, gathered info abt dll and checked but it is anyway
latest version.

Not techie enuf to see this codec thing by myself.

Would higly appreciate if someone can provide a step by step process to get
me out of the blue.

Many Thanks!!!

It's odd that you can save as a dv-avi and not wmv. dv-avi takes more space
and more pc resources to make, so is generally the one you can't save as if
it's a pc spec problem.
Have you tried saving the movie as a really low output such as pocket pc?
How does this fair?
Have you added any codecs, codec packs etc to your pc for playing such
things as divx movies or whatever, if you have been prompted to download
them?

Graham,

Thx for response ...

I have tried all other formats....and after some research on papajohn's site
and elsewhere I came to conclusion that this problem does exist....but could
not gather what solution is...no enough tech knowledge on these things...

for second part:

"Have you added any codecs, codec packs etc to your pc for playing such
things as divx movies or whatever, if you have been prompted to download
them?"

Answer is No.

I understand that you might be aware of this codec business so if you can
help me decipher the extract below it might put me out of misery.....step 6
to be more precise....however its quite an old post on that site and I
suspect that with XP sp2 this might nmt be the solution still.....

8/6/03 - (MSN Messenger Audio Discussion) - This is my first attempt at
using Movie Maker 2 and I'm getting that error message. The project file has
only 6 JPG pictures on it and, when I try to save the movie, the message pops
up. > We had it working fine an hour later, after these steps: (1) Determined
that it would save it as a DV-AVI file, but not to any WMV choice - would get
the error message. (2) Downloaded/installed the latest MM2 installation
package - no change. (3) Found that his firewall precluded playing a sample
web-based file in Windows Media Player - poked a temporary hole in the
firewall to play the online movies, but it didn't resolve the MM2 issue. (4)
Downloaded/installed the full version 9 codec package - no change. (5) Tried
using a WMV source file instead of the JPG pictures - no change.
(6) Downloaded and installed the Windows Media Encoder package - BINGO!!!
works great! Seems like a missing or corrupt part of the XP setup precluded
Movie Maker from rendering to a WMV file, but wasn't needed to render a
DV-AVI file. Whatever was missing or corrupt was brought in or fixed by
installing the Encoder package (the current suspect is QASF.DLL).

A 10/11/05 email reported another case of not being able to save as WMV but
having no problems with DV-AVI: "... the issue was with codecs not being
installed. I updated a DLL, which i don't think was necessary, then installed
an ACE codec pack with about 200 codecs in it. After that it worked fine, but
i couldn't playback the timeline. So I unchecked all of the codecs and it
plays back fine on the timeline now..."

Many thanks.....

I have the exact same problem. Tried all the tips I found here, but nothing.
About 3 moth ago I used WMM for the last time without any problems.

Anyone new ideas how to solve this?

I have checked all. Seemed to be ok, but to be sure I copied all WMM-files
from a identical system where all works perfect. Still problems. I
deïnstalled a number of programs wich handle video and reínstalled all
Mediaplayer related software. No solution.

You see, I tried to solve the problem myself before I asked the question
here.

Thanks for trying to help.

I'm sorry for scattering things about but Dec.13-14-15, 2005, I put
some material (changes to msdv.inf etc.) in the rec.video.desktop NG
too. Could you take a look at that also and tell me how exactly I can
get this winME system to apply the correct drivers to the ieee1394
capture adapter?

Thanks

Robert,

Finally the only way I could resolve my problem was by a clean reinstall. I
tried installing Ulead before the clean install and even that was not saving
the movie.Instead it was crashing. After clean reinstall of Windowsn XP and
SP2 and everything things have been fine at my end.

HTH.
