Can not play Video files in PowerPoint 2002

We have recently upgrade to Windows and Office XP and now have discovered that we can not play video files except for avi format in powerpoint presentations. When inserted into the presentation it appears as a black screen and will not play. The video clips in question do play through mplay32.exe. Does anyone have further suggestions. We need to find a resoultion to this problem as quick as possible.

What file types are you having trouble with?

Can you convert the files to AVI, since those seem to play for you?
