Can not get search results from address bar

I deleted some files due to some hijacking from
unscrupulous web sites and now i can not search from
address bar. I have enabled this feature in tools >
internet options > advanced. I have resinstalled IE6, I
have made sure that the auto search settings are correct.
Instead of searching, it doesn't search. anyone have any
ideas?
