Can not fix audio for messenger 6.2

Can anyone please help. I am running windows XP on both
my main computer and my laptop. My router ADSL has been
upgraded to allow audio chat on messenger. I thought the
problem was my firewall, which I have put exceptions on
etc, without success. I previously used messenger 4.2 ?
I think and it worked without my firewall, but I could
not get it to work with my firewall going (even with
exceptions). I upgraded to 6.2 and now it will not work
at all, even with my firewall deactivated. Also my
laptop which has no firewall on it all will not work
either to have audio chats in messenger *using version
6.2 as well. I have fixed all the common things (QoS
scheduler) deactivated etc, port 6901 opened etc - and
nothing works. How can microsoft release such a
difficult to use program. So many people are having
problems its ridiculous....please help me.....

Somebody will probably point out that MSN 6.2
Messenger is not the same as Windows Messenger
which is up to 5.0 (was 4.7) I think.

My big problem was getting the router enabled for UPnP.
So do you have a section called "Internet Gateway" under
My Network Places ---> Network Connections ?
The icon is distinctive.

Also in MSN 6.2, at the top of the window, under TOOLs
---> Options ----> Connection

Towards the bottom of that last screen (Connection) there
will be a little section called Advanced Connection Information

If this reads "non-UPnP ... the router is not right,
It needs to read "UPnp ....

It must say UPnP in Advanced Connections of MSN 6.2 _and_
you must see the "Internet Gateway" section Network Connections.
If not, then your router is not UPnP enabled and it must be enabled.

Check this again, because more than one of us has made this mistake.

Regards,
Stephen
