can not find opperating system

My labtop is saying it can not find the opperating system. And it is making
noices.
At one point it said \windows\system33\config\system was corrupt and to put
the CD in and go to windows setup repair and fix the file. I went there and
at no idea what to do. This morning when I went there it says it can not do
anything because there is no hard disk installed.
Can I do anything to save my laptop and/or back up my files?

I think that your hard disk is damaged, so, you will need to call at your
laptop support technicians.

I hope that the files on that hard drive are not the last photos of
grandpa - prior to his passing. The drive looks like it has gone bad. The
time to backup your personal files is before this happens. Now is too late.

If the files are really important you can go to www.drivesavers.com or
www.ontrack.com and see how much they would charge to recover your drive's
contents.

It isn't inexpensive, in fact, it can be up into the thousands - depending
on the drive size and drive condition.
