I am unable from my Vista computer to access walmart.com website. I have
tried all suggestions from the groups that I have found, but still no luck.
We have contacted Dell tech support & they state that I need a Vista patch.
But I can't find it on the Microsoft website & Microsoft will not talk to me
w/o $. I have NO problems from my XP computer getting to walmart.com.

I have also noticed that I can log into my internet provider's website
www.cableone.net but can't see anything from my Vista computer - again my XP
is fine.

Please help!

Hello Becky,

Close any open instances of Internet Explorer.

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Options/General tab, under browsing history
click on 'delete'.

Delete Temporary Internet Files and Cookies. Close this dialog when complete.

Click start, type CMD. Right click the entry in the start menu, choose 'run
as administrator'.

From the prompt, run "ipconfig /flushdns" (without the quotes). When
complete, exit the command prompt.

Reboot

Retry the sites.

You talk like you have a router sitting there. Is that the case? What is the
Web site/browser error code when you cannot see the Web page for the site
you're trying to view. If you do have a router there, did you connect the
Vista computer directly to the modem and try to access the sites to see if
the problem follows? If you have a router sitting there what is it
make/model?

I have never been able to connect to my internet providers site. I was
previously able to connect to the walmart.com site, but never able to order
anything. My order would never complete.

I have a linksys wireless g router. The computer I am using is a laptop w/in
a wireless network. I have another (desktop) computer in my son's room that
is also wirelessly linked (w/XP) & has no problem accessing either site....so
that doesn't lend itself to being a problem w/the router.

The problem really appears to be a Vista problem.

By the way - when I can't access the walmart site I get the msg Internet
Explorer cannot display the webpage.

When I access my intenet providers site, I can log in to my account but the
page is just blank.

Some sites install an active X control, but most use cookies.
If you have the security/privacy settings too high, the site can't keep your
information (in the cookie) while you complete the checkout process.
I would check those settings, delete all temporary internet files with the
browser closed, and try again.

Hi Becky,

Close any instances of Internet Explorer. Click start and type CMD, then
right click the entry that appears in the start menu and choose 'run as
administrator'. From the prompt, run "ipconfig /flushdns". When completed,
close (type "exit") the command prompt and retry accessing that (or any)
site.

That's not correct. I have seen posts in wireless and non wireless NG(s)
about a problem with routers, as where, one XP computer couldn't access a
Web site or sites while other XP machines using the same router could access
the site or site.

So once again, have you disconnected the computer from the router and
connected it directly to the modem to see if the problem follows?

It's called trouble shooting and process of elimination to pin point just
where the problem maybe, in stead of assuming

One other thing, have you taken a cable and connected the computer on the
wired side of the router to see if the problem follows?

We plugged the laptop directly into the cable modem this afternoon....& you
are correct. I can access the websites from the Vista laptop when connected
directly to the modem. I really appreciate your assistance. I was just
assuming the problem was w/Vista & was looking in the wrong direction. We
will work on getting the router settings corrected.

I am thinking that it's as simple as you have to flash the router with its
firmware to correct the problem. Sometimes, firmware on a router has to be
flashed/reinstalled on the router due to it being sick out of the box or has
become sick. That's usually the solution for the problem you are facing,
where some machines can access a Web site while other machines cannot access
the same site when using a router.

You should flash the router with its firmware and see what happens.
