Hi
I am new to access security. I developed a database and secured it by using
the security wizard. I created new users and assigned no permissions to the
admin user. The problem is that the database I have has to be distributed
to 10 machines. The shortcut works fine on my desktop but when I upload it
on other machines I get the message cant be started, was unable to
initialize windows registry. The file is only 4 kb and yet my database is 5
mb. I read the different threads and thought the problem might be with the
target name. I follweed the advice, "path to msaccess.exe"path to
mdb"/wrkgrp"path to mdw" but i get an error message saying the path name is
incorrect. I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right
direction.

Thank You
Carolyn

I'm not sure what you mean by "The file is only 4 kb and yet my database is
5 mb." but there are a number of things to check wrt file paths:

Are the other PCs using the same versions of Office? IIRC some have
MSACCESS.EXE in different folders. Also A97 won't open a file created
using a newer version.

Have you put the mdw file in the same place as on your PC?

Did you transfer the files via CD? If so you'd have to remove the 'read-
only' file attributes.

Thanks for the quick reply. The mdw file is called secured.mdw but when I
look at my workgroup file it gives me a different name. The mdw file is on
the same pc. I transferred the files by using a shared folder. My computer
has got office 2002, the rest have office 2000. I do not know what I have
done wrong. On looking at the target on both my computer and their
computers it says that the target is on my desktop. I am wondering if thats
where the problem lies. Please help.
