access security

When opening a secured access 2000 database in a shared folder on another
computer using a shortcut with its target:

"path to msaccess.exe" "path to mdb on the other computer" /wrkgrp "path to
secure mdw on the other computer"

the login dialog box is displayed but when I type in (correctly) a user name
and password I get the message not a valid name or password. I can open the
database from the computer it resides on.
thanks.

Hi, Allan.
the login dialog box is displayed but when I type in (correctly) a user name
and password I get the message not a valid name or password. I can open the
database from the computer it resides on.

I can think of three reasons for this:

1.) You are not joining the workgroup that was used to secure the database;
or

2.) You have the <CAPS LOCK> on; or

3.) You have at least one sticky key on your keyboard.

Recheck the shortcut to ensure that you are using the same shortcut on both
computers. If it's the same, then try opening a text editor and typing your
User ID and then your password to see whether there are any sticky keys.

HTH.

Allan,
Try entering the user name and a blank password. The PID you entered when
you created the user name is NOT a password. Every user's password is
initially blank and must be changed to something else by the user when they
log on.

Thanks for your responses.

1) I know the PID is not the password
2) the caps key is not on
3) the keyboard does not have a sticky key

:) this is why I said "correctly" when I described entering user name and
password.

according to the workgroup administer on the computer I'm trying to log in
from I have joined the workgroup that controls the database. The workgroup
file and the database is on another computer on my network. The database and
workgroup file in question is access 2000 and I'm trying to open it with
access 2002.

thanks again

Lynn,

I mistakenly posted this as a reply to my original question - so I'm posting
it again as a reply to you.
