I just got broadband installed. Everything appears ok
except I can not get out to the internet. Operating
system is Windows XP Norton Anti-Virus is up to date and
regular scans are run. I can use the old AOL dial up
with no problems, but when I try to use the broadband I
can not get to the internet. I have changed everything
as the cable company reccomends with no luck. I have
even tried two NIC cards with no luck. I tested the
cable modem on another computer (Windows 98) & it
connected right away. On the XP box, I can ping the
gateway ok buth that is about it. Any suggestions????

Do you have a firewall program running. we had the same problems untill we uninstalled norton firewall. Now everything works fine.
When I would try and relogin into norton firewall to change options, it refused to recognize me as admin so we just got rid of it. Too complicated.
I activated the xp firewall and all works fine now.
