Can my I make my PC start automatically/use it as an alarm clock?

That looks pretty good - does it start the PC up first too? I don't mind if
it has to be from hibernate.
Is it fairly idiot proof?
Thanks

The bios setting enables you turn on the machine, if you've shut down the
machine completely (ie via 'Turn off computer' ).

The scheduled task method will wake the computer from standby / sleep /
hibernation, or it will run a task if the computer is on, but not if you've
shutdown the computer completely, ..

So depending on how you generally turn off your machine, you could use
either of those approaches, or a combination of them.

You can click 'Browse' in Task Scheduler where it asks for which script to
run, and browse to a music file or .wpl playlist etc, or another program.

I see - I think! I got a bit scared when I went into scheduler and saw all
the system files. So I just have to go back up into my files? Could I get
it to connect to the internet so I could have an internet radio station?

I'm happy to leave it on hibernate overnight but I'm guessing if I don't
want it over the weekend I either need to shut the PC down entirely or create
5 weekly occurrences?

Thanks for all you advice on this

Yep just navigate using the dialog to the program / file you want.

Should be able to yes. You could schedule

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

as your program, and have a url in the 'Arguments' box (in quotes) eg

when you set up the Scheduled Task. As long as you've got autoconnect set up
for your Internet connection , and Internet Explorer configured, then it
should be ok.

You can set this within the scheduled task itself - choose a 'Weekly' task
and include / exclude the days you want.

Hope that helps.

That is not what you said before. You said that it could start the computer
up completely, from OFF, which I was sceptical about. I still am, as
hibernation turns the computer off fully as well. It just saves the RAM to
disk before it turns off. Are you sure you have actually enabled
hibernation through the Command Prompt?

You are welcome to remain sceptical if you like. I've been waking the
computer to run tasks from hibernation for years. I did it under XP and I do
it now under Vista.

Alternatively you could actually *try it*, as I suggested previously.

I've done it, it works. It wouldn't play just a song but it will play a playlist which is better anyway. Thank you

My asus p5nsli motherboard has that function built into the motherboard.
Just insert a music cd into your computer and it will turn on when you tell
it and play the music cd to wake you up!
