I purchased XP Home and the computer died. Can I load the XP software on
another old computer or will there be problems since the computer or update
site may thing the software is loaded on more than one computer? If there is
a problem how can it be fixed?

Was your copy of Windows XP Home a retail or OEM purchase (license)?

OEM - Cellophane wrapped piece of cardboard at most.. usually 1/2 the price
of the retail copy.
Retail - Nicer packaging, more expensive - actual support.

It is a retail purchase and I have all of the original packaging.

With what you have presented..

- Purchased Windows XP Retail Packaged (Not OEM Packaged)
- Installed it on a computer.
- Computer in question died.

You can do whatever you want with your Windows XP Retail edition without
anyone being able to say anything to the contrary. Worse case is you may
have to activate by telephone instead of over the Internet - but only if it
has been less than 120 days since you last activated that copy.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on and sell,
donate, or give it away. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, the new owner will most likely be
able to activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less,
he/she might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
