Can I use Wrd 02 as the advanced editor for Outlook 03 signatures

I am helping someone create an Outlook (03) signature that includes an image.
His advanced editor defaults to Word 2002. He is getting an error that says
the htm file "could not be located. This signature may have been removed."
I'm wondering if the cause of this is his use of Word 02 instead of Word 03
as his editor.
