Can I use an XP machine as a server for a small group of machines?

I have 4 machines that need to act as a network, for file sharing only.
I have an under-used XP SP2 machine I'd like to make the server. Is
that possible?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
BDZ

Howdy,

Few know less about this sort of thing than I, but until
someone comes along better equipped to assist...

Yes, that is the setup we have in our small office:

We have 6 systems with one as "designated server." Of
course, it is a peer-to-peer setup, but because the "server"
is not used as a workstation it makes things much easier.
Backup is a snap, and we don't have the problem of the
server being locked up by some user.

That arrangement has worked very well for us for several
years.

All the best,

Thanks so much for the response. I have found some other resources to
help also.

Thanks again!
