Can I upgrade XP to XP Pro?

I seem to have XP Media Center Edition on my new laptop, I didn't even know
that existed, and I'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade to XP Pro? Can
I just pop in the CD and start? Will I lose any currently installed files?

XP media center is XP pro...
just an enhanced version

a.. Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) - If you wish to run Pro Edition
instead of MCE please backup all your files and install a fresh copy of
Windows XP Pro. Note: MCE comes with software specifically designed for
Media Center PCs and and this change can result in reduced system
functionality.

Why?
Media Center IS XP Pro with the added MCE features. The only limitation on
Media Center is that it cannot join a domain except during setup.

Transitioning from WinXP MCE to WinXP Pro is a _downgrade_.

WinXP Media Center Edition is a _superset_ (iow, it does
_everything_ WinXP Pro can do (except join a domain), plus contains
additional multi-media features) of WinXP Pro.
