can I upgrade from NO RAID to RAID 0?

L

Linux Lover

Hi,
I currently have only one 160GB HDD in my system (P4P800 Deluxe)
running W2K. It is connected to the RAID IDE port (ATA133 or UDMA6),
but obviously does not benefit from any RAID feature since it is the
only drive in the system.

If I want to upgrade my system to RAID 0 by adding another identical
HDD, will I have to re-install everything I already have on the first
drive?

Thx,
Lynn

Lynn - somebody will probably tell you that you can clone the ORIGINAL drive
to a THIRD drive...then install the SECOND drive...then create the RAID
array, (which will erase the ORIGINAL drive)...then restore the cloned image
from drive THREE to the array.

This works in theory, but will almost definitely cause 'way more hassle than
it's worth. It costs money (probably), and takes time. And when you're
done -- it likely won't work. Or won't work well. It is infinitely
safer/better/wiser to simply bite the bullet and start fresh with
everything.

Please post a follow-up.
Ron
