Can I "unsave" or recover an earlier version of a doc. in Word XP?

Amazingly, I managed to delete the body of a document and save over the file.
Now, I have an empty file and cannot recover the 6 page document I had only
seconds ago.

If the document is still open, try pressing Undo repeatedly until
the deleted text reappears.

The problem wasn't that I deleted the text, it was that I quick saved over it
before I realized it was gone...it won't let me undo.

In Word, if the "Always create backup copy" option is enabled in
Tools | Options | Save, then the previous version of the file
will be saved in the same folder as the current version, but with
the filename "Backup of <OriginalFilename>.wbk". If the backup
option is not enabled, then the original version is gone.

There is a good chance that there is a TMP file on you PC which contains the
document. I suggest you download Recover My Files from
www.recovermyfiles.com. Run a "Complete File Search". In the dive selection
window click "Add folder to the search" and add your documents and settings
folder. Now run this search for .doc files and it will find all the temp
files on your computer. Click on the files that this program has found to
preview the content of the files. Good luck.

same question for a Mac

I know this is a PC forum, but this is the most on-point answer to the problem that I am having. Anyone have a similar program or solution for the same problem encountered with a Microsoft Word document on a Mac?
