I have an external harddrive that had all my files on it.
I have a breifcase on my laptop in which I had a copy of a folder with many
sub-folders from my external. I had deleted one sub-folder from my laptop to
save some space and wanted to add it back. I thought I would just use the
update all to do this and update some of the files I had changed on my
external. THere were a bunch of files listed, which I expected, I scrolled
down and I thought that all of the files were being updated on my laptop like
I wanted, I hit update all. It ended up deleting many of the files from my
external as a part of the update. Those files were saved nowhere else. THere
is nothing in my recycle bin. Can I ever get those files back?

They are gone, unfortunately.

Don't use the drive until trying data recovery.

Depending on how important the data is, another option is one of the
