Can I type a number and a word in a formula cell?

I am trying to run a list of expiration dates. For example, in cell A1, a
date is entered. In cell B1, I enter the number of years or months that the
date is valid for. I would like to enter the word years or months with the
value. Then, in cell C1, the formula which adds A1 and B1 together. I keep
getting an error for having a word in B1, but I need that word! What should
I do?
