Can I turn on PC without pressing the big case button?

My case has a door over the power button and I'm tired of opening it.
Can I turn on the PC without pressing that button? Thanks.

There's all kind of stuff like this in my BIOS. Do any of these turn
on the PC from a _cold_ state ie. absolutely no power but connected to
the wall outlet much _like_ the big power button does? I've nothing
but bad experience with hibernation and standby, so I want to avoid
these if possible. I can go either WinXP Pro and Vista.

Mod the case. Route the 2 wires of the Power button to another spot. You
don't really need another button. Just short the two wires to power on
the PC, like stealing a car... :)

.... and un-short the wires within 4 seconds, or the PC would be powered
down.

Remove the door ? :)

Clamp the door open permanently ?

A lot less work, than buying a normally open, momentary contact
switch, two pieces of wire, and a two pin connector, to connect
to the PANEL header in place of the normal computer power switch.

yes mine turns on from cold, its not in standby or hybernation. I also have
it turn on automatically in the morning so its warmed up when I get up.

I think its one of the Wake up by USB settings.

What kind of motherboard are you using? Thanks.

So then, why did you buy a case with a big annoying door on it, anyway?

Very simple answer. I'm running out of room. I bought the case and
then I had to move it somewhere else.

So then, howabout just taking the door off? It should be a trivial matter
to dislocate it from the hinge(s).

Matt, read your manual.  One of the system bios settings should
allow you to power on (cold start) your machine by simply tapping
the spacebar.- Hide quoted text -

I read the manual, went to the BIOS, enabled "Power Up by PS/2
Keyboard" to 'Ctrl-ESC' (the other options are 'Disabled', 'Space
Bar', and 'Power Key''), saved the new BIOS settings, exited, pressed
the red button on the case to turn off the computer, powered it down
for 10 seconds, and pressed Ctrl-ESC...............nothing. Didn't
work. The PC didn't turn on. Am I missing something? By the way, my
motherboard is an Asus P5N-D. Thanks.

Your board has a three pin "KBPWR" header, and also has
USBPW headers. The jumper on the header can be placed in
the +5VSB or the +5V position. For an input device intended
to wake the computer, the jumper must be set to +5VSB.
(This will cause your mouse light to remain on, if the
mouse shares common connectors with a keyboard that is
using +5VSB.) Anyway, check your jumpers and see whether
the keyboard is actually getting power during sleep.
+5VSB remains running, when the computer sleeps.

Ah, yes, I read about that somewhere...that's the 'voltage standby'
thingy. I'll let you know what happens as soon as I get a chance to
play around with it. I'm learning something Paul! Thank you.

It works.  Thanks Paul.

The Ctrl-ESC key combination worked, but refused to work when the unit
is attached to a KVM (keyboard, video, monitor) unit. However, I
found out by trial and experimentation that "Ctrl-ESC, Enter" works.
So all is good.
