Can I set up PowerPoint to disable the "print slides" feature?

We are wasting a lot of paper because students are printing slides one at a
time. Can we disable that feature and only allow printing of handouts?

From inside of Powerpoint go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > PRINT and then change the
DEFAULT PRINT SETTINGS FOR THIS DOCUMENT from MOST RECENT to USE THE
FOLLOWING and select the handouts setting you want.

Thanks Trey, I have done that but I want to PERMANENTLY disable the ability
to print slides. Students can still change back to slides printing. I want
that to be the only setting they can use.

I doubt you'll find anything along those lines but have a look at
http://skp.mvps.org for Shyam's Save The Trees add-in. That might be enough to
save at least 90% of the forest.
