Can I set Explorer like in XP address bar?

Vista Ultimate (and probably all the other versions of Vista) have a bizarre
idea of how address bar navigation should be.

It doesn't follow established search metaphors found in web pages, Mac
systems, Linux systems, and all of the previous Windows systems.

To say the least, it is not intuitive. Furthermore, it doesn't allow
customization to revert back to the XP-style address bar.

Vista has some sort of crazy "breadcrumb" and list box control which
replaces the address bar.

More importantly, it doesn't truly reflect the hierarchical structure of the
file system. For example, if I open up "Documents", the breadcrumbs start
with the user name, and not with the "C:\" root and then the location of
"Documents."

Once you're in "Documents", you can't navigate "UP" to it's PARENT folder.

Yes, the "UP" button we all loved is removed from Vista Explorer.

I'm going to buy XP once again, and retire Vista Ultimate...and and cut my
losses for shelling out so much money.

Purchasing Vista Ultimate (with Office Ultimate 2007) was the worst software
purchase I have ever made. I wish it wasn't true.

The Vista Start Menu has a horrible system also. It's doesn't follow the
time-honored metaphors of expanding flyout menus that have worked JUST FINE
for years on many operating systems, including all Windows systems.

Now, for any suggestions. Is there a button in Explorer for "Classic View?"

That would make my day.

Was that reply auto generated? Seems like he wasn't paying much attention to
my post.

I hate the Vista explorer search bar.

I don't want instructions on how to use it. A dummy can figure it out.

I'm saying, I want the OLD ONE BACK.

Can I get the Classic View back?

It just sounds like another guy with a chip on his shoulder. It just amounts
to Vista doesn't run like XP. It doesn't - it's not XP. XP didn't run much
like DOS either, and you got all the same grumbling then. The world moves on
faster than many are ready to go with it. Vista is a learning curve, and if
you just decide to climb the hill, it goes pertty easy. I was forced to
change, so I decided it was just another challenge. Life would be pretty
dull without them.

So, we get posts where folks spend many words telling us how Vista SHOULD
work, when in the end what matters is how it DOES work. We can't change it.
You can only give good advice like you did, and then they want to come at
you along with everything else.

Have a nice holiday weekend!

You will have to change the color scheme to "Windows Classic" to do
this though. It will not work in "Windows Aero" or "Windows Basic".
After you change to Classic, just open the Folder Options -> View and
check "Display the full path in the title bar (Classic folders only)".

Not at all sure that I would have responded Shawn. You have a great deal
of patience.

Is there an answer to the last post? I to tried the recommended
solutions and the vista window's explorer is not displaying the title
bar in the classic full path manner.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks (in advance)

What answers were you expecting? All you produced was why you don't like
Vista.

BTW, the "forum" that you are posting in leaches off the Microsoft News
servers in order to make it look far busier than it really is. Everyone who
uses the MS News servers sees your post on it's own - we have NO IDEA what
you are talking about and to whom you are talking.

If you MUST continue to post in this "forum" then please at least quote the
post you are replying to, and do NOT change the subject line.

You would be far better off however, using a news reader and subscribing to
these news groups direct.

Hi:

Sorry for any inconvenience. I was referring to the post submitted a
while back by "dropping_the_ball" titled "*Can I set Explorer like in XP
address bar?*".

Which was posted a YEAR AGO.
