I signed up to do a post card exchange for girl scouts and was inundated with
about 300 emails requesting trades from all over the US. I have the states I
want and have put everyone else into a folder marked "extra post cards". Is
there a way that I can send everyone that is in that folder an email that
says thanks for your interest but i already have your state. It would take
forever to email them all individually but to be curteous i need to respond
to everyone. Thanks!

Switch your view on that folder to an unfiltered table view, such as Phone
List. Use CTRL+A to select all items in the folder. Depending on your
Outlook version, you can right-click and select "New Message to Contact", or
click the Actions menu, then Create, then New Message to Contact. All of the
primary e-mail addresses for those contacts will appear in the To field of
the new message. However, for privacy's sake, you should move the addresses
to the BCC (blind carbon copy) field instead, and put your own address in the
To field. Everyone will get your message but they won't see anyone else's
e-mail address (or their own for that matter).

Bear in mind that most mail servers restrict the max number of recipients
per email. Check with your ISP or exchange admin for the limit.
