Can I retrieve an original document after overwriting it?

Hi Mandolin,

Yes, by re-loading it from a backup copy that you've kept against just such a contingency.

Thanks. Now where might I find such a thing in my back-up files if it's not
something I was consciously doing. Any ideas where it might be besides in
thin air?

If you weren't intentionally backing up your files, then you're pretty much
out of luck.

Hi Mandolin,

If you're running backup software that automatically backs up the folder you saved the file to, and the backups are incremental, you
should be able to use that software's recover/restore functions to restore the file. Otherwise, Id assume you didn't make a
backup...

If you were working on a Vista machine and system protection was
enabled (which it should be if you don't have to worry about disc
space), you can find previous versions of your document through
explorer.

Right-click the document in your explorer, select properties and then
check the previous versions tab.

Thanks pO, that makes sense, except I'm working with XP and previous versions
isn't coming up. Guess it's time to do the assignment over again and
upgrade.
