can I make pictures appear, disappear and repeat?

I want to have a number of pictures appear, then diappear, then repeat as
long as a given slide is up. So:
picture 1 appears, stays for 2 seconds,
picture 2 appears, stays for 2 seconds
picture 3 appears, stays for 2 seconds
goes back to picture 1

It seems pretty basic, but I cannot figure out how to make custome animation
do it.
What I get is the picture appearing (by speed I set), and then immediately
disappearing

It's PowerPoint 2003, appears to be version 11 (isn't real clear in the
'about' pull down) . Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated- the
"train the trainer" session is tomorrow.

MS seems to change a lot of the comands in PowerPoint with every version.
Frustrating. In this case, it didn't matter, as I didn't know how to make
pictures do this in earlier versions either.

Thanks

PPT 2003 (and 2002, for that matter) have exit animations. Previous versions
didn't. You'd have to do some real fancy faking/overlays to get a semblance
of this to happen in 2000 or 97.

Anyway, you'll set entrance animation then exit animation on the three
photos. There's no way to loop a sequence of animations, though, so you'll
have to manually add entrance/exit animations for as many times as you think
you'd need.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/results.aspx?Scope=RC&Query=animation has
some tutorials that should help you get started with these. Start with
"preset and custom," which should be the first link on the list.

What I cannot figure out, though, is how to make the picture stay there for a
period of time. Right now, the picture disappears as soon as it appears.
The delay time seems to affect only the entrarnce, and the exit seems to
begin immediately. Am I missing something there?

Just add a delay to the exit. You'd do that on the timing tab. Set the
animation, then click the arrow on the animation in the task pane and choose
Timing.

Or choose "show advanced timeline" from the pulldown arrow on the animation
task pane. Then you can just drag the bar representing the exit so that
there's more time between its start and the end of the entrance.
