Can I lock cells?

I have an Excel based time sheet and want to lock certian cells within the sheet so the information contained will not be altered. Can I do this, if so ...how

Hi
- first select all cells for whcih you want to ALLOW changes
- goto 'Format - Cells - Protection' and uncheck 'Locked'
- Protect the worksheet 'Tools - Protection'
