Can I limit a share to a single user not in a domain?

I have several computers running windows XP pro.

They are not in a domain.

I have a folder that I want to share with a few specific users on their
specific computers.

Is there any way to specify permissions for a user on another machine?
ie: OtherBox\username

All I've been able to find is:
+ opening guest account (not specific to one user)
+ building a domain (prefer to stay away from so much network management)
+ creating mirror accounts for each user and having them log in to their
local user accounts (prefer to avoid creating dupe accounts and forcing
logins each session).

You can easily do this since you have XP Pro. Create a new user group.
Call it something related to that folder; i.e. Marketing (or whatever
fits your situation). To the group, add yourself, Administrator and
only the users who should have access to that group. If you haven't
created user accounts/passwords to match the ones on the remote
machines for these people, you must do so. Now set your permissions on
that folder to only allow access to the new group.

Leave the Guest account disabled.
