Can I copy part of register from another computer on XP to install printer?

D

Dave Neve

Hello

I am in my 3rd week of trying to install a DCP-115 C Brother (or should that
be 'bother' printer

The install stops at 50% and by looking a Windows logs, it seems that it
tries to sollicit the Brother Spooler Service at this moment.

But the service is not available, due to an unwritten instruction in the
register according to Windows when I try to activate it.

I am now wondering if I found someone with the same printer on XP and got
them to copy the entries in the register pertaining to Brother, would I be
able to just merge them with my register and hey presto, the install would
rewrite instructions when it could but the missing ones would not be touched
and when install tries to run the Brother spooler service, it would actually
run and install could finish and I could get my life back

Any comments please?

Thanks

Dave Neve

You would have to pay me a great amount of money to copy ALL of the registry
entries pertaining to a piece of installed hardware. There could be many
hundreds of entries, and finding them all would take countless hours.

Is "Print Spooler" Service set to "Enabled" in Control Panel>Admin
Tools>Services?

Yeah.

You're clueless.

Yep, it is set to 'enabled' but the software creates a second spooler
service and this is where there is a problem.

When I try to launch this service manually, it tells me that there is a
missing entry in the registry.

Thanks anyway
