Molly

hi,

i just formatted and reinstalled Windows XP, a few days ago. When I
installed, somewhere along the line, I entered "Me" for one of the names
that the install asked me for.(duh), and I would like to change that now.

In Windows Explorer, under Documents and Settings, the first 5 subfolders
are,
All Users,
Default User,
Me, (the name I want to change),
Local Service,
and Network Service.

When I right-clik Me, and clik Rename, and enter a new name, and clik the
folder, I get a message that says, Me is a Windows system folder and is
required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be moved or renamed.

Can someone tell me if it is possible now to change this somehow, or I am
stuck with it,

Thank you

Hi...
Try this....
1. Control Panel
2. User accounts
3. Click on the Me account
4. Click on change name

Good luck

did that, but that doesn't change it under Documents and Settings, which is
where I want it changed :(

Maybe what I want, can't be done, at the bottom of this KB Article,

I found this:

you can change the account name:
Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
Click Local Users and Groups to expand it.
Click Users.
Right-click the account that you want to change, and then click Rename.
At a command prompt, run the set command; the %HomePath% variable still
points to the old user name.

NOTE: This does not change the name of the folder that appears under the
Documents and Settings folder for the user.

Molly, if you want the "friendly name" shown for the account and the name
of the underlying folder to match - create a new account using the desired
name. (Rename the Me account back to Me before creating the new
account.)
