Can I assign a color for tracking changes?

I have a large document that is being marked up by several authors. How can
I assign a particular mark-up color for tracking the changes by author?

I am using Windows XP Office 2003 suite.
 
No, when you choose "By Author," you turn that decision over to Word,
unfortunately.
