can get sound to work on powerpoint slide on xp machine ok on 98

mp3 file will not play on slide on xp machine, but works ok if I copy the
presentation to a win 98 machine
 
were is this mp3 file stored on the xp machine?
does it play in
start -> run ->
mplay32

If it does move it to the desktop or a folder not including "My Documents"
or friends.

Does the mp3 file play on the XP machine outside of PowerPoint?
