Why I can't reach the following (innocuous) sites?
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/front_index.php

http://www.handbag.com/

http://www.tes.co.uk/

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1784938,00.asp

http://www.pcformat.co.uk/

https://www.tescofinance.com/personal/finance/register_insecure/input_customer_no.jsp

https://selfcare.blueyonder.co.uk/

http://www.penguin.co.uk/static/cs/uk/0/competition/index.html?id=email&link=win_ad

http://www.dorlingkindersley-uk.co.uk/

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/

The programs show "opening page", then "Done", then...... The page cannot be
displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site
might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your
browser settings.

I can get many other sites.

I've run a virus check, cleared all cookies, cleared temp folders, run
adaware, Spybot Search and destroy, and Spyware Doctor. I've also run
CCleaner. Nothing seems to work.

This problem has been affecting my computer for a while now. However, it's
becoming more of a problem because I can't access an online banking
facility.

(Windows XP, Athlon 3200, 1.5Gb RAM, 200Gb HDD (half full), Blueyonder
Broadband).

Any help appreciated.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

I've tried your suggestion Frank, but still no luck. "Cannot Find Server"
messages.

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.

Hi,
I've got:-
1) Imhosts in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
2) HOSTS in C:\WINDOWS\I386
3) LMHOSTS.SA_ in C:\WINDOWS\I386

Is it any of them? Should I rename any/all as you suggest?
