Can a 2000 server image upgraded to 2003 standard server?

Keeping the installed applications alive?

Yes the upgrade path is possible. If this is just a standalone member
server then the upgrade is fairly straight forward.

One catch is that a 2000 Standard server cannot be upgraded to 2003
Enterprise Server.

However, if this server is a DC in a domain then some additional thought
needs to be taken. When migrating from 2000 server DC's to 2003 server
DC's the "adprep" application must be used to prepare the 2000 domain
schema to be upgraded to the 2003 schema.

Good luck.
