Camera API

I got the impression from PDC demos (I was perhaps making dubious
assumptions) that a forthcoming version of the Compact Framework for
Smartphone will include a camera API...is that correct, and if so, will the
same API be available for CF on Pocket PC Phone Edition devices with
integrated cameras, such as the XDA II?
It seems like a big ask, but would be preferable to having to rely on the
individual OEM providing a managed API (of which the chances seem between
slim and non-existent in most cases with PPC PE vendors).

I admit that an API is a nice-to-have more than an essential (since user
intervention is required in any case, if only to make sure the camera is
pointing in the right direction at the time), but still, it could be handy
to integrate camera functionality within the overall operation of a
connected application.

It's a great idea, but it will require that Microsoft dictate a standard API
that all hardware vendors must adhere to. Again., that's a great idea, but
if you look at just about any driver outside the core OS, OEMs always seem
to implement them differently (look at location-based services).

I've not heard that an API will or will not exist. I'd love it if it will,
but won't be surprised if is won't.
