calls from comp to phone?

i would like to know if there is software out there that
will enable me to make phone calls from my comp to
telephones.i thought there was something on messenger
that was able to do that but its gone or something.i dont
want to have to pay for the calls kinda software i just
want the software that enables me to do that WHILE MY
DIAL_UP MODEM IS ALREADY CONNECTED.my OS is XP(home) TY
in andvance for any help you could render.

If your modem is connected to the internet then you can't
make a regular call cause the line is being used. If your
connected and you want to make a call, then it has to go
over the internet and that costs money. There used to be
a few free services, but no more, they are all pay per
call now.
If you want to make a call using the computer while your
NOT connected to the internet, then you need some third
party software. Search google for telphone software.

it requires a monthly fee for the connection even though
you already have telephone service.

This classic phone tools is not part of XP. Most likely
it was installed by your oem. The original poster most
likely does not have this program. It's not an xp program.
