Calender sharing in outlook 2007?

G

Glenn

Hello,

While struggling (and failing) to get net folders working in outlook
2000, I came across ads on the upcoming 2007 outlook.
It seems calendar sharing will be better supported, but from reading
Microsoft documents, it is not clear to me if it will work without
Exchange.

Can someone confirm that outlook 2007 will be able to do the following:
-share calendars between 2 pc's with standalone outlook - without
exchange/domain involved
-one user can make changes to the other user's calendar, i.e. editor
role.

best regards
glenn

Hi Glenn,

Outlook 2007 is based on PST files and you can not share a PST file (live)
without 3rd party tools.

Outlook 2007 supports an other "sharing/synchronization" function. You see
some of them on this website:
http://blogs.msdn.com/melissamacbeth/

(search here for "viewing and sharing") but a real life access to a shared
PST file is not possible with all Outlook versions without 3rd psrty
solutions.

Maybe the Microsoft sharing ideas is what you are searching for.

On this site is an article on various ways to share Outlook data:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011477571033.aspx

but if you need a live sharing solution have a look on this sites

ZDNet UK recommend this tool:

and a list of a list of third-party sharing tools is also on this site:

Hello Olivier,

Thank you for your reply.

I was hoping for a working Net Folders functionality in further outlook.
I stayed at outlook 2000 to be able to use Net Folders. Although since a
service pack, it is broken.

Sharing has to be seen as sending control messages to and fro, not
directly accessing other user's pst files.
due to the small setup (3 pc's) exchange or sharepoint servers is not an
option.

it was a picture like the link that spiked my interest, it clearly
showed other peoples calendar.

ms/outlook/65533_400x298_calendar.jpg
(http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/programs/outlook/overview.mspx)

I tried other 3rd party tools mentionned on slipstick, but I couldn't
get them to work (instability, errors)

regards
