if you have the following prob with windows calendar not working - ref:
KB933942
Microsoft want to charge £40 + to get a hotfix! If it dont bother you much
then I would suggest waiting for a service pack to be released that will
hopefully fix all the bugs ang glitches with Vista. Unless of course you are
minted and money is no object :)

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

From where are you getting your erroneous information? MS does not
charge for hotfixes. They may take your credit card information at the
beginning of the call, but as long as you only ask for support for that
particular issue and hotfix, you will not be charged.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933942/en-us

"Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is
intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not
severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the
next service pack that contains this hotfix.

"To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Customer Support
Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer
Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs,
visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support
(http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support)
Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support
calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines
that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support
costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not
qualify for the specific update in question."

Read the last sentence above more carefully - you are *not* charged if
you do not ask for "additional support questions and issues that do not
qualify for the specific update in question".

Or directly here;

Be sure to put in the correct KB article number for the hotfix.

Where it asks you "Product and version affected", leave blank.

They may email you back and ask you to verify this is for Vista.

They will then email you a link to the hotfix.

I've used this twice, both times I had the hotfix in under 4 hours.
Might be different since this is the weekend.

Take care,

Michael

For the record I got an emailed reply in about 10 minutes.

You're welcome, Jon.

Did that quick reply also include the link for the hotfix?
If so, bravo to Microsoft.

Yes it did include the link, with no questions asked.

The only info I gave was

(1) Country
(2) KB number
(3) Email address
Everything else left blank.

Excellent tip. Thanks again.

Perhaps they already knew that I was coming ;-)

I was having the same problem described here and requested the hotfix which
was promptly emailed to me. However, I am having trouble installing it. I
download the file, it defaults to C: drive (is that correct?), and then i put
in the password. It then give me the following error message -- "an error
occurred while unzipping. One or more files were not successfully unzipped.
The error code is 40."
Any thoughts or ideas how to get around this.
Thanks for any assistance!!!!

That is odd. You can download the file to whereever you like, but one within
your user profile is generally better ( C:\Users\Username..... )

Some other things you could try.

(1) Try a different folder to unzip to. There may be permission problems
with the folder you're attempting to unzip to.
Create the output folder manually first, if necessary too

(2) Right-clicking the unpacker and choosing 'Run as administrator'

(3) Redownload the file. Could be file corruption

Thanks so much for your help Jon. I ran the unpacker as administrator and it
was fine. Still getting used to VISTA!!

Thanks again

Mike
